Resources

We follow a bunch of other farmers and resources, which we share with you here:

Other Local Farms We Like:

These are some of the farmers who are local to our area, that we personally know. We vouch for the quality of their produce and farming techniques! (There’s definitely other cool farms and farmers I know in the area, but these are the ones I know best)

Lunar Rhythm Gardens: Out near Janetville, I worked here for many years and still get veggies from them for things we don’t grow. They have a winter CSA!

Foragers Farm: Awesome farm near Coburg. They have lots of cool events at their farm and a CSA as well.

Puddleduck Farm: Friends near Millbrook who also farm with no till. They produce maple syrup!

Farmers We Follow on the Internet:

These are some of the other people I get knowledge and inspiration from for how to farm and care for land:

Matsunobu Fukuoka who wrote the book: One Straw Revolution: He was a farmer in Japan a while back, and his philosophy on farming and living is what inspired me to get really into gardening in the first place. Highly recommend his book, the One Straw Revolution. It is short and beautifully written, and has deep wisdom about farming, connecting with nature, and life.

Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms: He’s a great farmer and speaker. Good at explaining regenerative animal farming. I recommend his talks (like his ted talks and stuff) on youtube for people who are unfamiliar with regenerative ranching and carbon management.

Farmer Jesse with No-Till Growers: Has the best podcast: The No till market gardener’s podcast. Also on youtube. He is really good at collecting and sharing all the coolest no-till farms and techniques.

Ruth Stout: Learned about her in my permaculture course. She lived a while ago and would garden with a thick hay mulch, the way I also garden now.

Charles Dowding: A no till ( no dig ) grower in England who’s books I learned a lot from. Has super clean and beautiful gardens! He mulches with compost.

Jean Martin Fortier of the Market Gardener: He has a super useful book called “The Market Gardener” which I refer to often for garden planning and advice.

Steven and Megan of the Sacred Gardener: Beautiful and generous people and farm near Golden Lake, where Cheslee interned/apprenticed in 2015. A meeting place of herbal wisdom, spiritual teachings, deeply loving collaboration with land and fellow humans!…and scrumptious wild/cultivated culinary creations:)

Bill and Becky of Midwest Permaculture: They taught my permaculture class back in 2013. Check out the video of their suburbs home! It’s amazing what they’ve done.

Geoff Lawton: Permaculture guy. Permaculture is really cool! Very much about designing systems that mimic natural ecology. He’s one of the top people in permaculture these days.
