Our cucumbers are ready!

I used to have great trouble growing cucumbers. But I heard of a cool idea which totally made them work for me. The idea was to get as many different varieties of cucumber seeds as possible, and grow them all together – allowing the fittest to survive and cross-pollinate. Then, take all the seeds from the plants which were able to somehow survive in my garden, and plant them again!

Thus, the cucumber type that I call “Cavan survivor” was born. There is a bit of diversity within this variety, as it is a sort of variety group. But this idea is called ‘landrace’ and if you ever struggle to get a vegetable to survive in your garden, I can recommend it as a technique to get it to survive and thrive.
